Position Summary and Responsibilities
Vassar College invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible ten-month position. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required.

Job Summary
The successful candidate will assist the Director of Athletic Communications with the promotion of the department's 25 varsity sports and four varsity club teams.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • assist with the management of the athletics department's website
  • writing game recaps
  • cultivating positive relationships with media members
  • writing, editing, assisting in the design of graphics and video content for social media
  • assisting with day-to-day operations and other duties as assigned



Evening, weekend and holiday hours are required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience in an athletics communications or media relations setting as an undergraduate or professional. Demonstrated writing skills with prior experience in sports writing, sports copy editing, proofreading or desktop publishing. Must have ability to work on deadlines and handle several responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision. Experience and demonstrated proficiency with computers and desktop publishing programs on Macintosh and/or PC platforms. A valid and unrestricted driver’s license is also required.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Experience with sport-specific software programs, such as StatCrew and NCAA LiveStats and content management programs. Familiarity with SIDEARM-designed websites.
Experience with digital photography, videography, graphic design, video design and applying created content to social media platforms. Knowledge of emerging social media platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills.
