Reports to: Head of School

Purpose:

The Infant and Toddler Teacher provides primary care for children assigned to her group under the general direction of the Infant Toddler Teacher & Curriculum Coordinator and the Head of School Duties:

  • Responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children assigned to Infant and Toddler group
  • Assist with development of lesson plans and daily schedule for Infant and Toddler groups
  • Set up and maintain physical environment to meet the needs of Infant and Toddler age children
  • Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development
  • Participate in staff meeting discussions and ongoing training for State Licensing and Step Up to Quality regarding program, children, and families
  • Provide appropriate, accurate information to families regarding their children as well as general child development information
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Infant and Toddler age growth and development and general knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid
  • Demonstrate ability to work with children warmly, calmly, and in an unhurried way while maintaining safe, clean, and pleasant environment
  • Demonstrate ability to meet the social, emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children
  • Contribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the Lab School; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed




Primary Contacts:

Laboratory School Head of School, Laboratory School staff, Children and families, University Employees, School of Education program faculty and students, and faculty and students of other disciplines using the Lab School. Supervision Exercised:

May exercise some oversight over work-study students, service-learning students, campus and community volunteers, and student teachers Supervision Received:

Works under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed independently on routine work referring questionable cases to the lead Infant and Toddler Teacher and/or the Head of School.

Education: CDA; Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (or equivalent) preferred. Experience:

Experience in an Infant and Toddler or daycare environment. Knowledge of Step Up to Quality and State Licensing rules preferred Specialized Training:

Current certification in Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention, First Aid, Prevention and Management of Communicable Diseases, CPR.

Must never have been convicted or pleaded guilty to child abuse or other crimes of violence as listed in section 5104.9 of the Revised Code; must be mentally and physically fit for employment in a facility caring for young children; must pass an examination by a licensed physician not more than 30 days before employment; must be free of apparent communicable disease, including tuberculosis; must have been immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.   • Must possess aptitude for technological development and its implications for appropriate automation of the Infant and Toddler classroom


Work Environment, Physical Demands:
  • Academic year position; multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions; customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work; must be mentally and physically fit for employment in a facility caring for young children including lifting, stooping, bending and ability to move quickly and respond appropriately to needs of children; maintain visual contact with a broad area.
  • As enrollment patterns change, the University reserves the right to assign staff to rooms, groups, and/or hours as needed. All staff assignments are subject to change to meet actual enrollment patterns in the Center.
