Job Description:

The Director and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, Accessibility and Disability Resources (ADR) is responsible for sustaining and advancing high-quality programs and services that support the individual needs and overall success of our disabled students. The director provides dynamic and visionary direction in to continue setting national standards of excellence in accessibility and universal design for people with disabilities. This position oversees the development, coordination, and supervision of the Office of ADR.

The position coordinates University programs and responsibilities to assure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. This position serves as Electronic Information Technology Accessibility Coordinator and oversees implementation of processes and procedures to ensure access and effective communication for disabled people. The ADA Coordinator has direct oversight and implementation of public and student access to programs and facilities, which includes the University of Toledo Medical Center.

The position will be responsible for coordinating University policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking university progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, filing all necessary reports, and providing consultative services to employing units and offices.

Any appeals related to the provision of academic or employment related accommodations will be handled by the Director and ADA Coordinator. While the Director and ADA Coordinator provides consultation and has general oversight, the Office of Human Resources will work directly with employees to engage in the interactive process and determine employment related accommodations.

The ADA/Section 504 Coordinator has direct oversight and implementation of public and student access to programs and facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree and at least eight years of progressive relevant experience in higher education.
• Demonstrated and sophisticated understanding of the key issues and best practices related to disability in higher education.
• Significant leadership experience in a highly complex environment.
• Supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships with colleagues in a highly consultative environment and to lead groups of people toward a common mission.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and implement process improvements.
• Demonstrated superb expressive, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities in complex contexts with competing interests and strong stakeholder viewpoints.
• Demonstrated experience in – and an ongoing commitment to – working effectively with and across diverse communities through an intersectional and justice-focused approach: including people of color, underrepresented groups, and new immigrant populations; American Indians; people with both apparent and non-apparent disabilities; women; people of various gender and sexual identities and expressions; and first-generation students from poor backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (beyond Masters, i.e. PhD)
• Experience leading and managing an office or office division that is responsible for delivering disability services.
• Significant management experience with professional staff in a highly visible program or organization.
• Experience determining and implementing reasonable accommodations for disabled people in a higher education setting.
• Experience at a higher education institution or at a large, complex, and decentralized mission-based organization.
• Demonstrated experience in working on equity and diversity initiatives within and across different constituencies.
