Position Summary:

VCU’s School of Medicine Office of Admissions seeks a highly motivated, self-directed, and detail-oriented professional to join its admission team as an Admissions Program Specialist. The School of Medicine Office of Admissions is dedicated to selecting a diverse, multidimensional class of capable and promising medical students. As an integral member of the team, the Admissions Program Specialist will provide administrative and program support for the Office and the department’s leadership team. The Program Specialist will also provide key customer support and must be able to communicate well and establish rapport with students, faculty, physicians, staff and external constituents from diverse backgrounds.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

· Coordinate and manage planning and implementation for SOM Admissions interviews, special programs and meetings

· Provide administrative support to the Admissions Committee

· Greet School of Medicine candidates and ensure a positive and welcoming experience; provide timely response to large volume of applicant inquiries via website

· Provide administrative support to Office of Admissions leadership; manage calendars; coordination travel; and manage event planning as needed

Minimum Hiring Standards:

This position requires a person who can work cheerfully and efficiently with the public and communicates with others effectively. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to faculty, students, peers and the general public. Demonstrated ability to perform detail work with prescribed procedures. Must possess good organizational habits and office skills and etiquette. The ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a very busy office is essential in this position. Strong computer skills and superb telephone manner required. Incumbent must be proficient with technology. Candidate will be designated essential personnel. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher). Experience as an administrative support person with knowledge of state purchasing guidelines and procedures is required. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

College degree is preferred for this position with several years of work experience in an academic setting. Experience in an admissions office is preferred. Proficiency with state purchasing protocols, including use of Realsource.
