Reporting to the Dean, the chair is responsible for implementing university, college, and department policies, the development, coordination, and administration of all academic programs and activities within the department and continuing the department’s positive trajectory in high-quality research output and teaching excellence. As a representative of the department, the Chair is expected to articulate program aspirations, directions, standards, and points of view to other groups inside and outside the university community.

Texas State’s San Marcos campus is located in a growing community along the I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. With its strategic location in the heart of the region’s innovation ecosystem, Texas State enjoys a unique setting among Texas universities. Texas State is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Emerging Research University within the State of Texas.

The McCoy College of Business is AACSB–accredited, has grown more than 30 percent over the last ten years, and serves over 4,000 undergraduate students and nearly 500 graduate students. The Department is interested in recruiting an individual who can embrace and enhance the vision of a diverse, collegial, and productive academic environment while building and leading collaborative, interdisciplinary teams. Dynamic leadership, clear communication, strong interpersonal skills, and a keen strategic vision are crucial characteristics required for success.

The chair is responsible for managing the department’s budget and leading the department on matters related to curriculum innovation and research impact, recruitment and performance evaluation of faculty and staff, and the formulation and implementation of strategic priorities.

The chair will work with the dean in seeking and facilitating giving and resource development for the department.

Extraordinarily qualified applicants with current, high-quality research activity may also be considered for an endowed professorship.
