$95,000+/year; Commensurate with qualifications and experience

This position is a twelve (12) month, tenure track appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Duties & Responsibilities

The position includes teaching 200 and 300-level undergraduate microbiology lectures and laboratories, 300 level undergraduate immunology course, a nominal number of microbiology lectures for medical students, and involvement in instruction of microbiology laboratories for the medical curriculum.  To include but not limited to:

Teach medical students in the medical school curriculum. REMS 1/2/3 fall and summer semester Microbiology/Immunology lectures for graduate/medical students (5) fall semester Microbiology labs for medical students (10 in total, spread throughout the year) Teach graduate students in the graduate curriculum. Teach undergraduate microbiology and immunology lecture and lab courses. BIMD 302 (General Microbiology) spring semester BIMD 302L (General Microbiology Laboratory) spring semester BIMD 328 (Introduction to Immunology) fall semester Supervise graduate teaching assistants and peer teachers who teach the corresponding labs. Maintain a productive research program commensurate with rank. Supervise laboratory preparation staff. Collaboration with established researchers OR development of unique education research. Actively participate in the service missions of the Department, SMHS, UND, and profession. Other duties as assigned. As the Director of Learner Research this position will be responsible for the administration of the REMS and MD/PhD programs for medical students.  This position will promote and facilitate basic, translation, and clinical research by SMHS learners, measuring success by publication in academic peer-reviewed PubMed-listed journals.

Curriculum development and lab preparation are established for the courses and available to the candidate filling this position.  In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of the laboratory preparation staff and graduate teaching assistants.  Opportunities to engage in existing laboratory research programs or in educational research would be available to the successful candidate.


Minimum Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent with expertise in microbiology and immunology commensurate with rank
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the college or university level
  • Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to participate in medical and graduate education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence based educational practice in adult learning
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with online learning management systems (blackboard)
  • Publications or equivalent evidence of research in the areas of microbiology and immunology
  • Effective communication skills
