Assistant Athletic Trainer

Athletics

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Athletic Training area. Assist in injury prevention & rehabilitation, drug testing of athletes and intermittently supervises student employees and graduate assistants. Daily coverage of team practices and games.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Assist in the administration, organization and planning of schedules to provide coverage at athletic events.
  2. Follow specific guidelines for the care and prevention of athletic injuries including treatment and rehabilitation.
  3. Enforce policies and procedures pertaining to the Sports Medicine areas.
  4. Advise coaches as to medical status of players.
  5. Work closely with Sports Performance staff in relation to restrictions of injured athletes.
  6. Work cooperatively with Team Physician and University Health Center.
  7. Follow programs designed to prevent athletic injuries, assesses injuries and determines level of participation after rehabilitation.
  8. Compile and maintains statistical records of team injuries and insurance statistics.
  9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  1. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to keep accurate records.
  3. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  4. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Windows and E-mail.
  6. Ability to work nights and weekends is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must be able to assist injured athletes off the athletic field.
  2. Must be able to carry equipment/medicine pack.
  3. Must be able to assist athletes onto treatment tables.
  4. Must be able to use defibrillators.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in health-related field is required.
  2. NATA certification is required.
  3. Master's Degree in health-related field is preferred.
  4. Two years' experience in a University or school setting is preferred.
