JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Alumni Relations reports to the Director of Alumni Relations and assists in the planning and execution of events and activities that engage Adelphi University's 100,000+ living alumni in meaningful ways. Through fostering volunteerism and philanthropic support, the Associate Director will help realize Adelphi mission as well as the University's goals contained within Momentum 2, the University's strategic plan.

REPORTS TO: Director of Alumni Relations

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Connection: Assist in the execution of activities and events that engage alumni, build loyalty, and enhance the reputation of the program and the University.
  1. Assist in the development and execution of a strategic plan for alumni events and signature activities for the Alumni Relations program.
  2. In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, plan and execute Adelphi Spirit Weekend, an annual campus collaboration intended to appeal to alumni, students, parents and families, faculty and staff, and the community.
  3. Create and implement a strategy to engage young alumni, including specific programming and outreach to foster lifelong relationships between young alumni and Adelphi University.
  4. Work with relevant internal partners (e.g., Center for Student Engagement; leaders of student clubs and organizations; Greeks; etc.) to increase undergraduate and graduate student engagement that will enable the development of lifelong relationships between alumni and the University.
  5. Assist with the development and implementation of alumni affinity groups.
  6. Launch new events and programs to engage and cultivate populations of previously un-engaged or under-engaged alumni.

Recognition: Create award and recognition opportunities for alumni to increase reputation of Adelphi.
  1. Working with the Director of Alumni Relations, manage and execute Adelphi's 10 Under 10 young alumni recognition program, including campus-wide nomination process, notification, and annual awards ceremony.
  2. Execute the annual recognition program, The Legends Dinner, during Adelphi Spirit Weekend each fall.
  3. Develop and execute Adelphi's inaugural Graduate Alumni recognition program including campus-wide nomination process, notification, and annual awards ceremony.

Cultivation: Develop programs to motivate alumni and other constituents to invest in the future of Adelphi.
  1. Through effective volunteer engagement and cultivation, aid in the development of a pipeline of annual, lead, major, and planned gift prospects for Adelphi.
  2. Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of engagement events (virtual and in-person) including but not limited to: reunions; parents and family events; volunteer stewardship events; young alumni events; regional events; and other campus events and activities.
  3. Assist the Adelphi Fund with young alumni giving initiatives including targeted 10 under 10 fundraising.
  4. Support crowdfunding efforts to increase alumni and student participation rates.

Other Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as a liaison between campus departments and the Office of Alumni Relations.
  2. With University Advancement, research, code, and update alumni records to reflect milestone anniversaries and affinity affiliation for event development.
  3. Assist with supervision of student interns to manage various alumni email and phone accounts.
  4. Maximize events by collecting usable information such as updated personal and professional contact information before, during, and after each event.
  5. Implement and track metrics and key performance indicators for events; introduce and regularly use surveys of event attendees to garner feedback.
  6. Work with internal partners and external vendors as needed; process contracts and invoices for venues, tickets, and supplies.
  7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  1. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including proficiency in
    e-communications. Strong working knowledge and experience with social media platforms.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with and make the best and most effective use of volunteers.
  3. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and to creatively solve problems.
  4. Ability to speak effectively and persuasively at events and/or to make presentations to individuals and both small and large groups.
  5. Ability to work independently. At the same time, ability to work effectively on teams with both internal (faculty/staff) and external (alumni/parents) partners and volunteers.
  6. Experience in event planning within defined budgetary and programmatic guidelines.
  7. Understanding and appreciation of the prospect cycle: identification, engagement, cultivation, involvement, solicitation, stewardship.
  8. Understanding and commitment to the mission, vision, and programs of Adelphi University.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability and willingness to travel.
  2. Night and weekend work will be required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree is required.
  2. Three to five years of experience in higher education alumni relations, fundraising, constituent management/relations, or a similar field is required.
  3. Experience working with volunteers is required.
  4. Experience with Raiser's Edge (preferred) or similar CRM is required.
  5. Knowledge of and familiarity with Moves Management ™ is preferred.
