DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean of Health Sciences, the Program Director oversees instructional, curriculum, operational, and personnel activities of the department and serves as a liaison between administration, faculty, staff, and students. The Program Director provides the support to the instructional department necessary to ensure that students are able to meet their learning objectives and accreditation requirements.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the quality of the curricula by monitoring the effectiveness of instruction and the assessment of program and course outcomes. Follow appropriate guidelines to implement changes for courses or degree programs.
  2. Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, hiring, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty, work-study students, and support staff.
  3. Support and promote teaching effectiveness and professional growth for staff and faculty through ongoing staff development.
  4. Support and promote student success associated with student recruitment, advising, and retention.
  5. Provide a safe environment for students and ensure the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  6. Mentor, remediate, and communicate student progress to facilitate student success.
  7. Serve as a mediator when conflicts and/or disagreements occur with faculty, students, or staff.
  8. Obtain information and prepare reports to be in compliance with educational, funding, IE, and accrediting agencies’ requirements. Adhere to prescribed deadlines.
  9. Establish and maintain external relationships that benefit instruction, including business and industry, community, secondary and post-secondary institutions, and other appropriate agencies.
  10. Fulfill an instructional load and all associated duties required if applicable to the area.
  11. Ensure compliance of LC, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Southern Association of Colleges and School policies and procedures; ensure compliance with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) policies and procedures as follows: maintain accurate information that is easily accessible to the public on the program website regarding accreditation status and current student achievement measures; submit documentation in a timely manner, including reports of graduation rates, performance on state licensing examinations and employment rates; ensure the policies and procedures adhere to ACOTE Rules of Practice and Procedures; submit timely notification of expected or unexpected substantive change(s) within the program and of any change in institutional accreditation status or legal authority to provide post-secondary education; and should the program fall out of compliance, facilitate the program coming into compliance with accreditation Standards and Required Elements within two years of being determined to be out of compliance.
  12. Promote community involvement and support college programs in a positive manner.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences and Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs.


QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/SKILLS:

Required:

  • Meet the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) requirements for the Director position including being a Certified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant with a minimum Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum of five years or (equivalent), full-time, a post-licensure experience that includes a minimum of five years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience; minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education settings or clinical teaching experience; minimum of two years experience in administration/management; experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment, including the equivalent of nine academic credits or coursework in educational foundations.
  • Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Texas.


Preferred:

  • Doctorate Degree if an Occupational Therapist.
  • Required experience as listed above.

Supervision Exercised

Full-time and adjunct faculty, department secretaries, lab instructors, student worker, and assistants. Students in the classroom, lab, and clinical sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
