West Virginia University (WVU) invites nominations and applications for a creative and charismatic Director for the School of Music. As a land-grant institution designated by the Carnegie Classification as very high research activity (R1), WVU seeks a leader with a vision to guide an innovative and inclusive musical community that prepares informed, ethical students for meaningful creative lives as performers, educators, composers, conductors, music therapists, entrepreneurs, and scholars.

Reporting to the Dean, the Director is a member of the College of Creative Arts’ administrative team. The Director communicates College and University goals and guides the development of School vision in planning for the future of School programs that align with the goals and objectives developed by the College and the University. With an enrollment of over 350 students and 42 full-time faculty, the WVU School of Music hosts eight undergraduate programs, several masters programs, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Program, as well as many student and community performing groups. WVU is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

The next Director of the WVU School of Music must be an innovative and visionary leader who is committed to the role of music as a critical aspect of our global society. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience as an academic administrator and have a record of success as a pedagogue, performer, or scholar. Candidates must hold a terminal degree in music or equivalent experience that would warrant consideration in lieu of a terminal degree. A national/international record of scholarly or artistic achievement commensurate with the position of an advanced Associate Professor or Professor in the West Virginia University School of Music is required.
