The University of Miami’s (UM) School of Communication (SoC) is seeking a Chair of Journalism and Media Management to begin Fall 2023. This person will excel at leadership, research, teaching, and service. This position is open to candidates who would qualify at the full or associate professor level, with a doctorate and a publishing record in Journalism, Communication, or Media Studies. The ideal candidate will have academic administrative experience and an understanding of professional practice.

The Department of Journalism and Media Management offers majors in Journalism, Media Management, Broadcast Journalism and Electronic Media. The department is comprised of 20 full-time faculty members with strengths in research and professional practice.  Faculty mentored award-winning student media include UMTV, Distraction Magazine, The Miami Hurricane, and other student media in English and Spanish. The department serves approximately 330 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students.

Journalism and Media Management is one of five departments in the School of Communication. The others are Cinematic Arts, Communication Studies, Interactive Media, and Strategic Communication. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Communication degree through nine different undergraduate majors (Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Communication Studies, Electronic Media, Interactive Media, Journalism, Media Management, Motion Pictures, Public Relations) and eight graduate degrees (Ph.D. in Communication and Masters’ degrees (M.F.A., M.S., and M.A.) in Communication Studies, Documentary Film, Interactive Media, Journalism, Media Management, Motion Pictures, and Public Relations).
