Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics Development, the Development Coordinator assists in coordinating the activities of the Furman Athletics Fund in order to meet its goals and objectives through fundraising, marketing assistance and solicitation, and retention of members. This role provides critical operational support, including preparing analytical reports, answering donor inquiries, managing donor and other constituent correspondence, participating in key committee work, facilitating events, and other day-to-day operational needs of the Furman Athletics Fund and its staff.

Job Description:
  • Assists the Director of Athletics Development with the strategy and implementation of Athletics fundraising campaigns for alumni, letter winners, friends, parents, faculty, staff, season ticket holders, and corporations;
  • Coordinates the design, production, and distribution of major Paladin Scholarship Fund and Furman Athletics Fund solicitations in partnership with University and Development Communications;
  • Seeks new Paladin Scholarship Fund and Furman Athletics Fund members on an ongoing basis, especially concentrating on young alumni, former student-athletes, and donors annually contributing $500 and below;
  • Expands donor engagement opportunities through coordinating and executing a variety of donor-centric events including, but not limited to Athletics Hall of Fame inductions, football tailgates, basketball pregame gatherings, and conference tournament hospitality;
  • Enhances Athletics Development communications through coordination and collaboration with athletics external affairs, development communications, and university communications to create and distribute meaningful and persuasive communications;
  • Manages and regularly updates all Furman Athletics Fund social media accounts; creates original content to drive engagement and philanthropy;
  • Coordinates the renewal of Paladin Scholarship Fund memberships;
  • Manages and updates weekly fundraising reports including regular constituent data pulls;
  • Provides regular reporting to Athletics leadership, university administration, Furman Athletics coaches, and other Athletics fund managers;
  • Coordinates regular pledge reminder process for Athletics; tracks, notifies, and audits all pledges to ensure timely fulfillment of commitments;
  • Processes mail, memberships, and money by researching member identification numbers and status, identifying the proper account number, determining the proper membership level based on donations, and maintaining up-to-date information on all members, monies received, and pledges made; acknowledges all gifts and pledges promptly with proper materials for level of membership in coordination with Donor Relations;
  • Provides support for Furman Athletics Fund memberships by typing, mailing materials, copying, filing, and answering questions, etc. as directed;
  • Other duties as requested.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • 1 year of prior experience in fundraising or another related field.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of fundraising, marketing, and/or public relations experience;
  • Experience in social media management;
  • Experience in event planning or hospitality management;
  • Ability to prepare and edit documents;
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising software.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills; excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
