Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Development, Enrollment, and Student Success (DESS), the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development & Annual Giving is the driving force behind a modern and effective annual giving and fundraising program. Using the latest in annual giving strategies, the AVP will design and implement an annual giving program and philanthropic digital engagement strategies for Naropa University. The AVP will work collaboratively across the University to identify annual giving targets and oversee campaigns that maximize annual, renewable, and upgraded gifts from a broad base of alumni, organizations, and friends of Naropa through the optimum mix of digital, print, social media, and personal marketing and outreach. 

 

The AVP is charged with enhancing fundraising strategies annually to increase the number of donors, members, and dollars raised, with targeted metrics for fundraising goals for each academic year. 70% of duties directly pertain to fundraising and actively creating new sources of revenue via grants and foundation cultivation. Seeking a strategic and detailed planner who understands the role of advancement in a higher education environment.  This position is 100% remote. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising and Annual Giving (70%)
•In tandem with the Vice President, the AVP serves as the lead fundraiser and will work to set the strategy and vision for fundraising.
•Oversee three (3) staff members directly and one (1) staff member indirectly in the areas of Stewardship and Programming, Grant Writing, and Alumnx Relations.
•Create an Annual Giving campaign for the campus, alumni, and friends of Naropa.
•Collaborate with other departments to create strategies for developing donor relations across campus for the purpose of creating an energetic and enthusiastic culture of philanthropy.
•Partner with leadership to identify top 200 stewardship prospects.
•Proactively design and implement annual and multi-year stewardship plans for donors and top prospects.
•They will work with the Grant Writer to identify opportunities for grant proposals and submissions that speak to Naropa’s mission and goals. 
•Identify potential prospects or donors in need of further cultivation by analyzing gift and other data adhering to Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) best practices and professional guidelines.
•Work closely with the Business Manager to ensure that all gifts are reported accurately in Raiser’s Edge.
•Perform research on specific prospects as assigned by senior administration, staff colleagues, and/or volunteers.
•Supports communication to Alumni through email campaigns and other projects. 
•Prepare prospective donor briefs for the President, Board of Trustees, and VP.
•Determine best way institutionally to honor and recognize donor giving on an annual basis, i.e. publish/email annual honor roll; develop year-end fiscal summary report.
•Achieve the yearly set fundraising metrics. 

Outreach and Special Events (20%) 
•Actively support Extended Campus to highlight their communications and fundraising opportunities.
•Develop and support regional and national events that support outreach and fundraising. 
•Supports all Alumnx events and works to actively promote these programs. 
•Co-lead the 50th Naropa Anniversary Celebration in 2024 and create a fundraising strategy for this event.
•Works to cultivate relationships with local, national and international foundations that are in alignment with our mission and values to determine partnership and future opportunities. 
•Work with the Development staff to determine how to support Commencement as an opportunity for outreach and fundraising. 

10% Other Duties as Assigned 
•May serve in place of the Vice President when needed.


•Serve on a variety of university committees.
