Description- Deans are academic leaders and heads of their divisions. The Dean provides administrative direction and leadership for the programs in Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and grants and other categorically funded initiatives. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Duties- With responsibility for the general leadership and supervision of faculty and support staff in the division, specific duties include the following:
- Supervising/evaluating department chairs and exercise general supervision and evaluation of all faculty members within the division. Provide leadership for program vitality and development, and work directly with faculty to plan for curriculum and program additions, modifications, and deletion. Set priorities for resource needs, provide program analysis and participate in strategic and long-range instructional planning Encourage excellence in teaching and provide leadership and mentorship to new faculty. Prepare and monitor budget requests/reports for the division Supervise the expenditure of funds, e.g., approve equipment, supplies, travel, etc. Create a positive collegial working environment for all levels of Division staff and work cooperatively with other campus personnel to coordinate programs and services for students Serve on and participate in campus organizations committees, and meetings Ensure departmental goals and objectives are established Play and active role in hiring and a facilitating role in promotion and tenure Ensures that all syllabi are constructed using the required template, that objectives and student learning outcomes are clearly defined and reflective of the placement of said course in the overall required courses for the ascribed program. Prepare and provide yearly division reports Other duties/directives assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs
Qualifications- Terminal degree in Mathematics or Natural Sciences. Earned credentials appropriate for the position, evidence of fit in the AU culture, intellectual and physical capacity to perform the required duties; preference will be given to applicants with prior dean leadership experience.
