The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) seeks an Assistant Director of Development to serve as a fundraiser responsible for raising financial support for the School’s priorities. The Assistant Director of Development will:

  • be responsible for conducting in-person meetings to qualify, cultivate and solicit individual prospects with a focus on securing annual leadership level gifts of $1,500-$10,000 while also qualifying major gift prospects for future cultivation in collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • In consultation with Director of Development and SPIA Communications Office, this position will develop the annual giving, alumni relations and stewardship strategies 
  • manage the SPIA Alumni Board of Directors
  • provide strategic support for the Director of Development, to whom this position reports

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of professional experience related to fundraising, nonprofit management, higher education, sales, marketing, development, business administration, project management, or relationship management
  • Knowledge of the University of Georgia is desired

DUTUES/RESPONSIBILITIES

(50%) Lead SPIA’s annual giving efforts by conducting scheduled face-to-face meetings, Zoom calls, phone calls and exchanging emails with prospective SPIA donors with the goal of qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these individuals as appropriate

  • Annual goals for number of meetings, dollars raised, and other critical metrics will be established and agreed upon by the Director of Development and the Assistant Director of Development
  • Complete managerial processes critical to travel, scheduled meetings, and fundraising performance
  • Develop additional annual donor solicitation efforts via mail and email (SPIA Giving Day, departmental solicitations, special giving initiatives, etc.) and assist SPIA Communications with implementation of these efforts

(20%) Manage SPIA Alumni Board of Directors including planning and executing board meetings, board fundraising events, application process, etc

  • Develop alumni relations and stewardship strategies for the School, and assist the SPIA Communications Office in the implementation of these strategies
  • Prepare necessary meeting materials for Dean and Director of Development making major gift presentations or solicitations
  • Maintain and manage physical and online donor files, annual giving reports, alumni board information, and stewardship documents, including updating records in GAIL

(20%) Lead the development and implementation of the School’s fundraising events and any events that are key to the cultivation, stewardship or solicitation of donors, and coordinate with the SPIA Communications Office to execute and manage logistics for these events.

  • Serve as the SPIA point-of-contact for the central UGA Annual Giving Office, Alumni Relations Office, and Donor Relations and Stewardship Office.

(10%) Perform additional job-related duties and special projects as assigned by the Dean or Director of Development.

  • Attend division and development staff meetings and scheduled individual strategy meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus to maximize donor experience and potential.
  • Actively participate in opportunities for professional development and enhanced knowledge about SPIA, UGA and our mission.
