Job Description:

The Bookstore Assistant in retail and Merchandising supports the Coordinator with opening the Bookstore. Assists at Customer Care to complete returns, buybacks, special orders, and responds to customers. Merchandises the retail floor and creates visually interesting displays. Ensures product areas are stocked, labeled, and retail floor is clean. Supports training for student employees. Assists with the fulfillment of online orders during peak business periods. Provides exceptional customer service to assist students, employees, and guests of the college.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Merchandising and Inventory

Merchandises the retail floor with incoming product. Creates visually interesting displays in key locations. Ensures apparel, backpacks, gifts, technology, and point of purchase displays are fully stocked, shelves are labeled accurately, and retail floor is clean. Posts sale signage for promotions. Assists with the product check in process and warehouse organization of products and fixtures. Supports fulfillment of general merchandise online orders during peak business periods. Prepares merchandise assortments for events and supports graduation events, author signings, and other sales promotions as determined.

Customer Service

Supports the Coordinator with opening the Bookstore and assists at Customer Care which includes direct support to customers for buyback, returns, and special orders. Responds to customer inquiries and phone calls. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance, and works overtime as required to meet workload demands. Works weekends and other hours as assigned to support the open and close as necessary.

Bookstore Operations

Maintains working knowledge of Bookstore practices. Uses knowledge base to make reasonable judgment calls on the sales floor on a situational basis.
Provides cross functional support with a variety of Bookstore projects or in other areas of the Bookstore. Contributes to a positive team environment by supporting the goals of the Bookstore. Assists with register, stocking, and floor recovery training for student employees.

Attends all required department meetings and training. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Employee frequently interacts with customers and other employees of Auxiliary Services and the college. Employee climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls, and lifts up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Typical retail environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to a retail setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: accounts receivable administration; generally accepted accounting principles; computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), accounting programs and software.

Skill in: verbal and written communications; project management; organization; data preparation and data analysis; software such as Excel, Word, etc.; proficiency in data presentation; customer service; conflict resolution; general typing.

Ability to: work independently; meet prescribed deadlines; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, students, telephone users and general public; maintain confidential and sensitive information; use good judgement; research and analyze financial issues; maintain accurate and complete work records; effectively communicate information in oral, written, and graphic form; excellent listening skills and participant in collaborative work; develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the College; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.

One (1) years’ experience in a customer service position, with general computer skills using job-related
word processing and spreadsheet software.

An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
