Summary of Job Duties:Will work under general supervision and is responsible for the primary cashiering operations of the institution and maintenance of individual accounts receivable records. The position is governed by generally accepted accounting principles and procedures and institutional policies. This position reports to the Bursar.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience: Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, general business, or a related field. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, general business, or related field.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the primary cashiering operations, including providing customer assistance
  • Analyzes accounts receivable accounts
  • Manages cash funds for special events including the coordination of any temporary large funds
  • Advises and assists students on installment plan selection and processing
  • Communicates and coordinates student information with Financial Aid Department
  • Posts and distributes information of outside designated scholarships
  • Handles inquiries regarding accounts receivable account data.
  • Coordinates and posts VA Chapter 33 benefits
  • Opens Cashier’s Office vault daily and collects Lions Cash deposit from library
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Completes mailed check log verification
  • Assists in reconciliation of accounts receivable component of the general ledger
  • Prepares reports from data within area of responsibility
  • Posts comments on the student’s account for all returned mail
  • Assists in developing cashiering processes and procedures
  • Assists in training of cashiering personnel.
  • Provides technical assistance to cashiers
  • Provides training and guidance to other cashiers and to finance personnel relieving during peak registration
  • Maintains strong working relationship with faculty and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Knowledge of administrative and management concepts
  • Knowledge of applicable governmental requirements and regulations
  • Knowledge of general information technology concepts and various software
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques
  • Ability to apply knowledge base comprehensively
  • Ability to compile information and develop and prepare reports
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to system users
Additional Information:

Working Relationships: Frequent contact with campus personnel, students, financial aid personnel, and peers.

Special Job Dimensions: Work is primarily performed in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pounds. Extended hours are frequently required, particularly associated with fiscal year-end and student registration. Routine office hours 8:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Salary Information:

$26,000 to $29,000/year depending upon candidate qualifications directly related to the position.
