JOB SUMMARY

The Kinesiology (KINE) Department at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals for a Palm Desert Campus (PDC) tenure-track position with an expertise in Exercise Science at the Assistant Professor level, with a focus on Biomechanics, Motor Control, and/or Motor Learning to begin August 2023. The KINE department is growing with approximately 1,000 majors across both campuses. Students choose between three concentrations: Allied Health Professions, Exercise Science, and Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education. The successful candidate will primarily teach at the undergraduate level, perform research, and service activities at PDC, although they will interact regularly with the faculty at the main San Bernardino Campus (SBC). Some teaching assignments may also be at the main campus although this position will be housed at PDC.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Kinesiology, maintain a robust and ongoing research agenda, and mentor students at the undergraduate level. The candidate will also advise students and perform career-related service roles on and off campus for the department, college, university and professional societies. Furthermore, the candidate will also lead activities that will advance scholarly excellence in Kinesiology. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: Earned degrees in Kinesiology/Exercise Science/Physical Education or related area are required. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. However, candidates with "all but dissertation" (ABD) are considered for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position. Degree completion is required by the time of appointment. A documented commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service at the undergraduate level is expected. College level teaching experience is preferred. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Other than expertise in Exercise Science and Biomechanics, Motor Control, and/or Motor Learning, preference will be given to those with teaching skills in other areas that complement our core instructional needs. These include Principles of Human Movement, Statistics, Nutrition in Sport and Exercise, Adapted Physical Activity, Fitness and Programming, as well as Physical Activity courses. The candidate will work primarily at the PDC, but will occasionally need to visit the main campus (SBC). An ability to develop a profile of extramural funding is also desirable.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Kinesiology at CSUSB promotes kinesiology education, research for educators, students, and practitioners. Our curriculum focuses on physical activity, exercise physiology, motor behavior, principles of human movement, adapted physical activity, and sociology and psychology of sport.
