Description
  • Teach the course 2D Materials and Concepts. Prepare a detailed syllabus for the course and distribute a copy of the syllabus to each student. The syllabus must conform to the requirements set forth in the Faculty Handbook and those that may be established by the department chair.
Course Description: An exploration of a variety of two-dimensional art and design practices through analysis, synthesis and experiential studio methods. Students completing this course should be able to:

1. Identify and apply formal principles of design in two-dimensional projects.

· Students will produce works that manipulate and apply formal design elements and their principles of organization, and apply basic principles of color theory.

2. Defend two-dimensional visual choices in relation to visual culture and the history of art.

· Students will research, apply, and describe visual choices as they relate to visual culture and art history.

3. Formulate concepts that apply traditional principles in a contemporary context.

· Students will visually apply semiotics and postmodern approaches in specific projects.
  • Maintains weekly office hours. When classes are in session, part-time faculty are expected to be on campus at least one hour for each course taught to meet with students outside class. These meetings may take place immediately before or after class.
  • Keeps an accurate record of student attendance and reports excessive absences to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Maintains an accurate record of grades and submits final grades in a timely manner to the Registrar.
  • Seeks ways to improve teaching effectiveness. Evaluates teaching effectiveness through student ratings of course and instruction and self-evaluation.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in teaching subject. In exceptional cases, outstanding professional experience and demonstrated contributions to the teaching discipline may be presented in lieu of formal academic preparation. Such cases must be justified by the institution on an individual basis.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with College policy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all constituents
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and knowledge of course content
