Job Description

The administrative assistant of the Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Recreation is the primary forward-facing departmental contact for students, faculty, staff, and the community. The administrative assistant is integral to ensure daily departmental function and a key member to providing a student-centered education experience. This is a full-time 12-month staff position with a comprehensive benefits package.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provides full administrative and scheduling support to the department chair and faculty
  • Performs computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and transcription from a variety of materials
  • Uses University software programs
  • Manages multiple budget accounts
  • Enters detailed class and instructor information into Banner each semester
  • Organizes class schedules, book orders, and all other department scheduling tasks
  • Handles confidential materials
  • Organizes and maintains electronic and paper files
  • Oversees training, scheduling and work assignments for student workers
  • Attends and records minutes of faculty and staff meetings as needed
  • Serves as a liaison with students, prospective students and stakeholders
  • Maintains building accessibility and security
  • Assists departmental accredited programs in tracking paperwork and generating accreditation reports
  • Works cooperatively with departmental faculty to market academic programs
  • Maintains an updated department social media presence


  • Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TicToc to maintain a positive and current social media presence for the department programs
  • Demonstrated complete administrative skills, including excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to learn different and new technologies
  • Experience with bookkeeping
  • Ability to initiate and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty and public
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
