Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The department of Recreation & Wellness provides opportunities for Utah Valley University students, faculty, and staff to participate in a wide variety of recreational & wellness pursuits. Recreation & Wellness is a department within Student Affairs. The Student Life Athletic Trainer serves as Athletic trainer for the department with a focus on Club Sports, Rodeo, Cheer & Dance, Green Man Group, and Intramural Athletes.

In this position you will enjoy limited travel and a large, new, athletic training room that will have 6 training tables and several different modalities for athlete care. This is a role where you will make a real difference in the lives of college students, empowering our students to succeed academically, personally, and athletically.

What you'll be doing:
  • Coordinate and provide high-level athletic training services through injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.
  • Provides timely first aid/emergency treatment to various teams and programs in Student Life at official practices and competitions.
  • Researches, implements, monitors, and enforces industry standards, risk management, and safety practices for all areas of responsibility.
  • Documents injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, appointments, and surgeries using electronic medical record keeping.
  • Maintains discretion and confidentiality and handle sensitive matters involving athletic injuries, mental illness, and the respective treatments.
  • Develops and enforces safety procedures.
  • Assists and connects with other departments in providing total wellness for student-athletes, including drug and alcohol education, testing, CPR Training, etc.
  • Assists with the purchasing of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for department operations.
  • Works with all entities to provide coverage to all games and matches as well as in office hours.
  • Services include but are not limited to coordination of physical exams, evaluation and treatment of injuries, creation and follow through on all rehabilitation programs, educate and counsel student-athletes on injury.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in a related field and a minimum of two years of experience related to the Summary of Duties OR a combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling six years.

National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification- Certified Athletic Trainer.

Current CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment, and rehabilitation.
* Knowledge and basic skill in therapeutic exercise techniques and functional progression programs.
* Knowledge of medical record management
* Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes.
* Skills to perform clinical and sideline evaluation of injury, and to design and implement basic treatment programs
* Skills in the application of protective wraps, tape and bracing devices.
* Ability to effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity.
* Ability to develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries.
* Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:
Move and lift injured athletes; lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Involves combination of office/computer work settings, working outdoors, as well as physical presence in and around recreational facilities. Work flexible schedule to meet operational and client needs. Work hours outside standard 8am to 5pm schedules
