JOB DESCRIPTION

The Applications Developer I is part of a small, high-performing team in the University of Indianapolis’ Information Technology department. The Applications Developer will help develop applications to solve business problems and provide enhanced functionality for faculty, staff, and students. He or she will also assist with ensuring reliability and security of existing custom applications and some web-based open source software. The Applications Developer will participate in the entire application development life cycle including application deployment and web server configuration.

This is a hybrid position requiring periodic work on-campus in Indianapolis; candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the University of Indianapolis campus. Please note - Remote work from within the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, and New York will not be permitted.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, code, test, debug, implement, maintain, and document web-based applications with an emphasis on secure, standards-based programming methods
  • Regularly communicate with all interested parties to provide and receive updates regarding development, troubleshooting, timelines, etc.
  • Create and maintain automated application tests (e.g. with selenium)
  • Install, secure, and update web software (e.g. WordPress)
  • Publish/update UIndy web and mobile content (text, images, etc.)
  • Help serve as a point-person for staff and end-user problems related to UIndy web pages
  • Keep up-to-date with current and emerging development best practices and research new technologies
  • Develop and support mobile applications to meet institutional goals, as need arises.
  • Participate in departmental projects and implementations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of one year of web-oriented programming experience
  • Object-oriented programming; PHP, specifically Laravel, experience a plus
  • Javascript, CSS, and HTML expertise
  • Application-level Linux experience (e.g. migrating applications)
  • Database querying; MySQL and Oracle experience a plus
