Job Details

The Department of Psychology at Skidmore College invites applications at any rank for a tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2023. Area of specialization for this position is open. Currently we have departmental needs in the fields of perception, cognition, and/or computational methods; however, we are actively soliciting candidates from all subfields within psychology. We encourage applications from individuals with identities historically underrepresented in the sciences. Ability to teach, advise, and mentor a diverse population of undergraduates is essential. The hired candidate will be expected to teach core courses (i.e., Statistics and Research Methods I and II, Introduction to Psychological Science), courses at the 200- and 300-level in their area of expertise, and a course that contributes to the College's interdisciplinary first-year seminar program. The hired candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant research program with undergraduate collaborators. Finally, the hired candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additional responsibilities include advising students and service activities at the College. The position involves an in-person teaching load of 18-credits per year which typically equates to 5 courses per academic year.

Skidmore College is a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, with a student population of 2,600 (8:1 student-faculty ratio), 26% of whom are domestic students of color, 10% are international students, and 15% are first generation college students.

Skidmore offers support for faculty development in many ways, including competitive start-up funds for research, a pre-tenure sabbatical, internal grants for collaborative research with undergraduates, a learning community for new faculty, funds to travel to present research, writing groups, and a course release in the first year. Skidmore is in the process of building its innovative Center for Integrated Sciences, which will house the Psychology Department in 2024. 1) a cover letter

2) curriculum vitae

3) a diversity statement demonstrating clear knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues, as well as past and proposed future practices to address DEI in teaching, research, and/or service.
