Job Summary/Basic Function



Life Coach is an exciting full-time position in the Division of Student Success focused on delivering personalized, proactive coaching focused on academic, personal, and career success to an assigned caseload of traditional, undergraduate students. Life Coaches are student-centered and committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff, and students. Life Coaches are committed to serving students in a variety of hybrid and flexible formats to meet the in-person and virtual needs of the student.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide timely and accurate academic advising for students in selecting coursework towards graduation requirements; Remain current in advising requirements for all programs
• Serve as the retention specialist for student caseload; Identify, document and implement first-year retention interventions as needed to maintain an 85% or higher retention rate for the first-year class
• Provide career coaching to help student achieve professional goals and to educate students on how to create digital career profile, professional resumes, cover letters and CV’s; conduct effective job and internship searches; and master interviewing skills
• Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all student interactions (e.g. student meetings, advising notes, coaching conversations, retention concerns) through the use of necessary campus systems (e.g. Colleague, Salesforce, Self-Service, etc) including prompt response time to all inquiries
• Serve as a University Seminar instructor. This includes team-teaching a 3-credit hour course for first-year students assigned to the Life Coach each fall term; Meet regularly with teaching team for ongoing planning purposes
• Be a Maryville expert for undergraduate students through knowledge of policies/people/departments, as well as general awareness of available resources and program offerings
• Administer, analyze, and utilize learning diagnostics (e.g. CliftonStrengths, College Student Inventory, STRONG, learning styles inventory) results with students to create a personalized learning portfolio for each student
• Complete additional projects and duties as they relate to the success of students and the progress of the Student Success Division and Maryville University

Work hours:
• Must be available to work some nights and weekends
• Intermittent, remote work rotation



Minimum Qualifications



• Demonstrated ability to develop one on one relationships with students, parents, faculty and other staff
• Exemplary customer service skills, including prompt follow up and positive attitude
• Ability to synthesize and take action on complex information
• Skills to professionally represent the university to diverse constituencies
• Impeccable communication skills
• Ability to work on multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimum supervision
• Proficient with computer applications and ability to learn and utilize new technology
• Working knowledge of computer applications and word processing software
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
• Bachelor's degree



Preferred Qualifications



• Knowledge in advising, career coaching, and/or higher education
• Familiarity with database software and student information systems
• Master's degree in a related field
