Context of job:

The Delaware Center for Teacher Education (DCTE) strives to lead the field in preparing professionals who develop the competencies, dispositions, leadership skills, and advocacy skills to become effective educators who are committed to improving the lives of individuals in a global society. DCTE, housed in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), provides services for students and faculty in 28 educator preparation programs at the University of Delaware (UD). Additionally, DCTE serves as liaison for University, State, and national initiatives to increase teacher prep program enrollment, diversity, and retention. Under the direction of the Director of DCTE, the Student Recruiter, Teacher Preparation Program will engage in activities designed to recruit students of color into the teacher preparation pipeline. The Student Recruiter will actively work with teacher education programs across CEHD and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to develop and implement a coordinated plan for outreach to teacher academies, high schools, and other potential UD applicants.

Major responsibilities:

• With the help of the CEHD Communications Director and UD Marketing, develop marketing plan and materials, distribution plan, and plan for monitoring these ongoing processes. Once developed, this position will monitor these responsibilities and modify as needed.
• With the help of UD Admissions and the CEHD Communications Director, develop recruiting plan and materials, distribution plan, and plan for implementing and monitoring these ongoing processes. Once developed this position will implement, maintain and monitor recruiting and modify as needed.
• Recruit students, particularly students of color, into UD's teacher preparation pathways.
• Interview prospective students and candidates for admission; maintain communication via telephone, correspondence, and/or electronic mail with prospective students through all stages of the recruitment and admission process.
• Identify other Grow Your Own pathways and establish communications with high school counselors and college readiness leaders (Learn in DE, Grow in DE, Teach in DE) and connect these initiatives with Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT).
• Establish partnerships with Delaware high schools including bringing UD students and personnel to teacher academies and high schools, reinstating TOT activities, hosting Educators Rising competition and/or conference, and develop a cohort community support system with the Rodel Foundation, Delaware Department of Education (DDOE), and Local Education Agencies such as school districts.
• Work with UD Collegiate/Educators Rising leadership to establish connections between teacher academy students and UD students and provide supports as needed.
• In collaboration with UD development team, focus on communicating and supporting scholarship initiatives, loan deferment, and other funding efforts for students.
• Prepare quarterly recruiting reports.
• Serve as liaison between UD and teacher academies.
• Meet with district and school leadership to discuss teacher academy partnership issue and opportunities, etc., as needed; resolve issues, implement initiatives, and oversee opportunities.
• Attend regular meetings and professional development with internal partners (e.g., DCTE meetings, Early Childhood Education meetings, CEHD meetings, and meetings with the Admissions Office, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Office of Alumni Development and Relations, and possibly the Delaware Education Research Alliance) and external partners (e.g., school district meetings, state level teacher academy meetings, Teacher Prep Project meetings, DDOE educator recruitment meetings, and other recruitment events) to build relationships, solve problems, report information, and develop opportunities.
• Work to increase and improve paths from high school to 2- and 4-year degree programs at UD.
• Work with Associates in Arts Program (AAP) administrators and UD teacher education faculty to recruit students into and develop 4-year pathways that begin in AAP.
• Work with faculty and administration to offer dual enrollment courses related to teacher education degree programs to better prepare students and ease movement along the pathway.
• Strengthen relationships between UD and teacher academies.
• Create pathways for college juniors and seniors not currently enrolled in teacher education, for example, streamline requirements to allow juniors and seniors who are interested in obtaining certification to do so without adding an additional year (leverage summer and winter terms).
• Improve quality of teacher academy courses with options such as remote UD course delivery combined with offering professional development to teacher academy teachers.
• Evaluate, with the help of the data team, the recruiting and marketing processes.
• Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in education, Master's preferred, with 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred
• A demonstrated commitment to diversifying the teacher workforce and/or expanding opportunity as well as a demonstrated understanding of barriers to underrepresented populations to entering the teaching profession
• Effective project management and organizational skills
• Effective public relations, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills
• Strong ability to perform program development planning and evaluation
• Strong presentation skills
• Intermediate computer skills with ability to maintain databases, write reports, and prepare professional presentations
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community
• Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Special Requirements:
• Valid driver's license with access to private reliable means of transportation for periodic State-wide travel
