Research Director, Data Science & Ethics of Technology (PRN31012B)

The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) is recruiting a dynamic leader to serve as the inaugural Research Director of the Data Science & Ethics of Technology (DATA) Research Hub. At the University of Utah, Hubs are designed to respond to grand challenges through (1) increasing external grant activity, (2) facilitating creative and scholarly work, and (3) developing interdisciplinary research communities.

The VPR seeks a Research Director with experience working in or with federally funded agencies, including organizations such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, National Endowment for the Humanities, and/or National Endowment for the arts. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will be comfortable taking on significant responsibilities including identifying promising funding opportunities, supporting team-based research, and overseeing and managing the DATA Hub budget.

To achieve these goals, the DATA Hub has a budget to support seed grant programs, team-based science programs, and the development of infrastructure. The DATA Hub is launching in tandem with another hub (Brain and Behavioral Research Hub) that will also have a Research Director. A strategic goal of the VPR is to increase the number of proposals submitted by investigative teams and the Hubs will serve as a key point of support and positive momentum. Reporting to the VPR, Research Directors of Hubs will enhance synergy and support team-based research.  Additional hubs will launch in the years ahead; collaboration among/between hubs is a key part of advancing interdisciplinary research at the University of Utah.
