Job Description

The Digital Projects Fellow will work closely with the Head of Digital Projects and the Metadata Librarian, to provide direct support for a major DEIA (diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility) assessment of current digital collections. This Fellow will learn and engage with digital collections best practices. As part of the project, the Fellow will have opportunities to interact with librarians and specialists from other departments, receive mentorship for professional growth and development, and help connect with and cultivate a professional network of his/her peers. This position is a gift-funded, part-time, remote eligible, non-benefit eligible academic appointment through May 2023, has no supervisory responsibilities, and reports to the Head of Digital Projects.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

Literature review and researched report on DEIA principles that can be applied to local digital collections practices

Communications and outreach support for DEIA audit process, blog posts and internal messaging

Report on recommendations for digital collection content selection and curation criteria

Editing legacy metadata records with DEIA recommendations as guide

Professionally engage with best practices in digital collections, and realistic experiences in creating high quality digital repositories for library users

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current student or recent graduate of an ALA-accredited graduate degree program for Library and Information Science to apply

Some experience with or knowledge about digital collections

Adept at using computers and various applications; ability to quickly learn new software and programs

Analytical and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

Some experience with library technologies and platforms

.5 FTE (20 hours/week through May 2023) Remote eligible

The UMKC University Libraries support flexible work arrangements in keeping with the Flexible Work Arrangement Policy. Flexible work arrangements should support the mission, goals and functional role of the employee, department and university.

Salary

$20/hour, Term limited - 20 hours per week through May 2023. Not eligible to receive benefits, but professional development funding is available. Funding levels vary annually, but fellows are generally eligible for about $1,000 in funding for travel, training, and memberships, though more may be available based on need.
