Are you a visual storyteller and creative marketing professional who enjoys hands-on involvement in events and projects? Are you equally well-versed in digital and traditional marketing? Can you see yourself moving easily between strategy, branding, analysis, graphic design, event planning, and committee leadership? Menlo College is looking for its next Director of Marketing to lead a team which collaborates with colleagues on campus and partners with alumni around the world to ensure the active growth and cohesive development of a broad array of marketing initiatives.


This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement & Development. You will be responsible for three talented and hard-working direct reports and have an opportunity to engage Menlo College students as part-time employees.


Strategy and Analysis

• Execute, refine, and iterate the marketing plan to ensure progress toward strategic plan goals

• Coordinate, author and distribute campaign briefs

• Produce detailed reports and analyses of systems and processes to support the continuous improvement of the marketing operation

• Monitor and assess effectiveness of digital and traditional marketing initiatives against institutional goals


Events and Community Building

• Plan and produce signature events for alumni, parents, and seniors

• Collaborate with colleagues to curate opportunities for meaningful alumni experiences

• Leverage partnerships with the Menlo Alumni Council, Student Government, faculty, and others to enhance alumni affinity and pride

• Support student-led events, such as TEDxMenloCollege, Techstars Startup Weekend @ Menlo College, and the annual lū’au

• Develop and implement feedback loops to drive improvements in alumni/prospective student experiences and engagements



• Serve as brand manager for the College

• Fully integrate the campus store into marketing and branding efforts

• Curate branded items and collateral on behalf of the campus



• Balance marketing resources between competing priorities

• Identify innovative and relevant ways of positioning the College with all market segments

• Develop cross-functional and interdepartmental initiatives to strengthen the cohesion throughout the ‘customer’ journey – from commit to alumnus

• Collaborate with the team to develop and distribute original content

• Work with outside subcontractors on the design and production of printed materials, marketing collateral and digital marketing campaigns

• Champion and create a central repository of marketing assets

• Other duties as assigned by the Provost or President

• Carries strong knowledge, understanding of, and passion for higher education


Desired Education, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, a related discipline, or equivalent experience; master’s degree preferred

• 5+ years of increasing responsibility in marketing at higher education or non-profit organizations, including supervisory experience

• 3+ years experience leading a department with significant autonomy

• Demonstrated project management experience at a small business or non-profit organization

• Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

• Commitment to creating an inclusive environment where differing perspectives and life experiences are valued as mutual opportunities for learning

• Advanced knowledge of G Suite; fluency in Adobe InDesign and working knowledge of other Adobe Creative Suite applications
