ADA Accessibility Student Services Specialist

Job Duties:
The ADA Accessibility Specialist reports to the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and provides leadership in the implementation and management of appropriate programs and services to support student accessibility issues ensuring lawful ADA compliance and serving as a resource for students with disabilities. Serves as the University Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) Coordinator and works closely with the directors in the division in planning and implementing programs for students

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the University's ADA/504 Compliance Coordinator
  • Provides guidance and consultation with the University community to ensure compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other federal and state laws regarding equal access for people with disabilities
  • Consults and collaborates with Information Technologies and other areas on electronic and information technology and website accessibility for faculty, students and staff
  • Serves as the University Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) Coordinator and supports hiring initiatives and experiential learning opportunities for student with disabilities
  • Manage services for students with disabilities including:
  • Verifies and reviews disability documentation to determine eligibility for services and authorize reasonable accommodation plans
  • Identifies, evaluates, and hires appropriate vendors and auxiliary services
  • Works cooperatively with Rehabilitation Services and other referral and funding agencies to coordinate support services for students
  • Coordinates and proctors accommodated student exams
  • Coordinates communication between faculty, staff, and prospective and enrolled students with disabilities
  • Evaluates program effectiveness annually to improve services
  • Serves as a member of an integrated team dedicated to effective and professional delivery of service by the Career Development Center
  • Comply with all policies of the University
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need
  • Actively work towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers and internal faculty and staff
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation
  • Proactively engage in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.





Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Counseling or a related field preferred
  • One to three years of experience in higher education, career services, and disability services environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitations Act of 1973, Sections 504 and 508 and its amendments, with a compliance understanding for students with disabilities in Higher Ed
  • Knowledge of Banner system, ARGOS, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software preferred

  • Must be attentive to details and have excellent organizational and communication skills, written and verbal, maintain strict confidentiality in communications.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a positive, helpful, and confidential manner.
  • Must have knowledge of learning strategies, resources, and accommodations appropriate for students with disabilities within the university environment
  • Maintains and educates faculty, staff and students of current legislation and issues affecting access for students with disabilities.
  • Maintains up to date technological skills and use efficiently in performance of job functions.
