About the Department:

University Career Services (UCS), a unit within the Division of University Life (UL), is the centralized career center for George Mason University (Mason), serving 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UCS is dedicated to helping students identify and pursue opportunities where they can make a positive impact in a complex and quickly evolving world. In partnership with our strong network of employers, alumni, and faculty we are able to break down barriers and successfully connect students with meaningful opportunities in their industries of interest to help them reach their full potential and advance not only themselves socio-economically, but their families too. Existing services and programs include one-on-one appointments, career exploration, industry specific programs, career fairs, experiential learning opportunities and graduate school preparation.

About the Position:

The Employer Engagement Consultant is responsible for cultivating relationships with a broad range of companies and organizations in a portfolio of designated industries with the goal of advancing recruitment of Mason’s undergraduate and graduate students into meaningful internships and full-time employment.

Responsibilities:

EMPLOYER & ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT: The Employer Engagement Consultant will be charged with strategically advancing employer relationships through collaborative efforts involving University partners, related academic departments, and the Mason alumni community. The consultant is regarded as a content knowledge expert and clearly articulates Mason’s brand and student demographics to advance the hiring of undergraduate and graduate students from all fields of study. The consultant will facilitate and implement opportunities for employers, with a special focus on alumni representatives of employers, to network with students both on and off campus. This role also includes being present at evening information sessions and events for designated industries. The consultant collaborates across all functions of the UCS team to provide a world-class career development program to benefit all undergraduate and graduate students.

STEWARDSHIP OF EXISTING EMPLOYERS: Manage employers with established recruiting relationships at the University to deepen existing recruiting efforts and to ensure a meaningful recruiting experience. Communicate on a strategic and frequent basis to assess existing recruiting priorities and results and to offer creative ways to advance recruiting on and off campus. Identify opportunities to increase hiring of graduate and undergraduate students with employers in new job functions. Attend and support on-campus recruiting events hosted by employers.

RELATIONSHIP CULTIVATION WITH NEW EMPLOYERS: Coordinate and lead research on designated emerging industries, new companies, industry developments, and recruiting trends to effectively engage prospective employers, including alumni working at those employers. Collaborate with key partners (including faculty and University partners) to strategically engage prospective employers to establish a recruiting relationship. Travel to meet with employer representatives at their respective locations, as well as conferences and other networking events. Increase employer presence on campus through participation in career fairs, special programs, and networking events.

COORDINATION & COLLABORATION: Regularly collaborate with multiple Career Services roles connecting and assigning employers to career events to increase networking opportunities for Mason students. Assist in planning employer engagement events in collaboration with a variety of staff, attend employer events and track and report-out related data and trends. Actively participate in regular, collaborative cross-functional meetings to share employer trends and industry/workforce data.

ON-CAMPUS PROGRAM SUPPORT: Collaborate with employers, Career Services’ staff and additional campus partners to educate students about industries, career opportunities, and preparation requirements. Actively participate in programs offered by the Career Services colleagues.

OFF-CAMPUS PROGRAM COORDINATION: Collaborate with employers and alumni to develop, implement, and attend opportunities for students to engage on-site with organizations across the country through site visits, special programs, and networking events.

REPORTING, AND COMMUNICATION: Track all interactions and progress with employer engagement efforts and prepare reports to present and distribute. Meet regularly with faculty and University partners to effectively communicate industry, employer, and recruiting trends of existing and prospective employers. SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES: Support staffing needs for large-scale events (e.g. career fairs, orientation), both in-person and virtually. Contribute to UCS strategic plan development and implementation. Serve on division/university committees to represent UCS. Serve as liaison to university departments as appropriate. Participate in all-staff meetings, trainings and symposia for UCS and the division. Represent Mason and the center in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with industry standards and changes, revise programs to reflect trends, and increase the center’s visibility among professionals in the field.
