Missouri Western State University (Missouri Western), located in Saint Joseph, Missouri, invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Reporting to President Elizabeth Kennedy, this Provost will join Missouri Western at a critical juncture, as it seeks to fulfill its role as the State of Missouri’s institution of applied learning.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a visionary, strategic, and responsive academic leader who understands the community and region that Missouri Western serves, as well as its student population. She or he will understand the mission and identity of Missouri Western as the state’s applied learning institution, and possess the ability to help facilitate the collective articulation of the University’s future.

As the Chief Academic Officer the Provost will work with the faculty on the development and implementation of the new academic plan. She or he will be an excellent communicator, who recognizes the importance of being approachable, available, and listening, as well as an adept facilitator of growth and success via transparency and collaboration at Missouri Western. At the same time, she or he will also be a decisive leader, who possesses clarity about the institution’s mission and priorities, and is able to articulate the rationale behind decisions in a timely and compassionate manner. 

Required Qualifications

The next Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs will hold an earned terminal degree in their field from a not-for-profit university or college; a record of scholarship, teaching and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure; a record of significant and progressive higher education administrative service appropriate to this role.
