SUMMARY OF THE JOB:

The Librarian provides leadership and serves as Hallmark library's representative. The Librarian is expected to represent the library within Hallmark University systems, develop programs, develop collections, provide budgeting information, manage volunteers, and manage the library facilities. The Librarian also supports the Department of Advancement through research and grant writing as well as select event and project management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Orient, train, and assist faculty and students/on-line students in the use of the LRS.
  • Assists faculty/students in the use of print/on-line materials, equipment and technologies by answering questions.
  • Offers basic technical assistance, troubleshoots computer problems, assists in navigating the Internet, locates databases in order to help patrons use library resources.
  • Locates materials, answers questions, requests materials through ILL, refers patrons to outside resources and collections when appropriate in order to provide information services to patrons.
  • Trains and supervises faculty/volunteers to help in these services.
  • Develops collection in response to community’s needs, develops materials purchase procedures, purchases materials, carries out weeding, and evaluates donated materials.
  • Initiates and coordinates programs.
  • Advises the Dean of Academics and the Chair of Arts and Science on pertinent issues, and gives monthly reports on library operations.
  • Attends meetings.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Additional duties as needed and assigned.
  • Supports grant writing efforts through research and content creation.
  • Coordinates and/or supports select events such as Annual Fundraiser and Summer Intensive Program.
  • Helps administrate Advancement constituent database.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, or Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) or related degree and four years of progressively responsible administrative experience, knowledge of University library services and operation.
  • Expertise with online library database management.
  • Experience or aptitude with database operation such as Raiser’s Edge
