Job Details

Landmark College is a unique, fully accredited college for bright neurodivergent students with learning differences (LD; including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and executive function challenges).  Landmark College provides an intentionally designed, resource-rich academic and student life model yet is traditional in most ways.  Our location in beautiful southeastern Vermont provides the setting for an engaged and inclusive college community with the safety of a small, rural campus.  Landmark College is minutes away from ski resorts and other outdoor activities and within driving distance to cities such as Boston, New York, and Montreal.  A position with Landmark College is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of college students and to help us change how the public thinks about education.

Landmark College seeks an experienced Controller to fill an upcoming vacancy.  The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer of Landmark College.  The Controller supervises employees responsible for Student Billing and Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, general bookkeeping, and the operation of the Bookstore.

The Controller and the finance team are responsible for all accounting-related activities at the College including budget management.  Other duties include managing available cash and debt obligations; managing the annual financial and uniform guidance audits; as well as preparation of internal financial statements, financial aid, and grants reports; payroll accounting; preparing tax reports; financial analysis; committee work; and supervision of the College Bookstore.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration and at least five years of professional experience in accounting and financial management in higher education or other type of not-for-profit organization.  A certified public accounting license is not required but preferred.  Strong analytical and organizational skills and effective leadership skills are crucial.  The ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, and solve problems is required.  Familiarity with Great Plains accounting software or similar enterprise-scale database accounting software is expected.  Experience in grants management is preferred.  Fluent use of Microsoft Office applications is required.

Landmark College offers competitive wages and an excellent benefits package.  Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, résumé, and full contact information for three references (references will not be checked until finalist stage) to the Director of Human Resources: humanresources@landmark.edu. Landmark College is committed to enhancing the diversity of the College community and is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO). To find out more please visit us: www.landmark.edu.

Company

Landmark College

While many colleges offer special programs for students with learning disabilities (LD) and other learning challenges, Landmark College is one of the only accredited colleges in the United States designed exclusively for students who learn differently, including students with learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism.

Landmark College’s mission is to transform the way students learn, educators teach, and the public thinks about education. We provide highly accessible approaches to learning that empower individuals who learn differently to exceed their aspirations and to achieve their greatest potential. Through the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, the College aims to extend its mission across the nation and throughout the world.

Students at Landmark College get far more personal, directed assistance than at traditional colleges that often offer a grab bag of accommodations for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or autism. Students at Landmark College receive individualized attention from classroom instructors—in courses tailored to meet their educational needs. This is evidenced by our exceptionally low student/faculty ratio of 6:1. Our experienced advisors meet frequently with students to review and guide their progress. In addition to advising, a wide array of other academic support is integral to a Landmark College education, including executive function coachingeducational technology support, and the services of our centers for academic support. All instructors are trained professional educators, not teaching assistants or peer tutors.

Landmark College is located in Putney, Vermont, in the southeastern part of the state. The campus is two and a half hours from Boston and four hours from New York. Southern Vermont also has a great deal to offer. Within half an hour of campus, faculty, staff and students can find amenities more often associated with an urban environment, including movie theaters, shops, restaurants, live music, art, and theater. Members of the campus community who love the outdoors will find world-class skiing, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking just minutes from campus.

Our Office of Human Resources strives to ensure that we are an employer of choice, attracting and retaining uniquely talented individuals able to advance the College’s position as the college of choice for students who learn differently. We are committed to a philosophy that recognizes each person as an individual, worthy of respect, trust, dignity and fair treatment, and we apply these tenets to serve, support, and value all members of our community.
