Department Summary
The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) at the University of Oregon is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well- being of at-risk children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan.
Position Summary
The Prevention Science Institute seeks to hire multiple Research Assistants to work in the Portland office. The Research Assistant will work with families and children to gather complete and accurate data through standardized personal interviews, questionnaires, standardized tests, parent-child interaction tasks, child and adult diagnostic interviews and video-recorded observations. The Research Assistant will perform participant recruitment and office tasks, assist with data management activities, participate in trainings and team meetings, and will prepare project related documents including surveys, assessment materials, newsletters, etc.

The person in this position will need to be available 20-40 hours per week including evenings and some weekends.
Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of higher education and two years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    *Related experience applies to professional experience in one or more of the following areas: conducting and analyzing standardized assessments, surveys, and interviews; working with children, families, high-risk families, or children with special needs; or conducting interviews in home or through Zoom (creating and sending links)
  • Knowledge of spoken and written English and/or Spanish sufficient to obtain, provide, or exchange information.
    Professional Competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with adults, adolescents and children.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a specific capacity for sensitivity, confidentiality, diligence and persistence with regard to engaging and retaining subjects in the study.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds as well as to develop knowledge of, and respect for, those from a broad array of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with customer service techniques (phone and face to face) and the ability to relate project information enthusiastically and confidently.
  • Ability to multi-task.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting in home interviews.
  • Experience using Zoom: conducting interviews/creating and sending links.
  • Available to work in the Portland PSI office at least one to two days per week.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
