Strategic Projects Manager

About the Opportunity

The Strategic Projects Manager (SPM) will provide comprehensive project management support for David Luzzi in his roles as Senior Vice Provost for Research & Innovation (SVPR), and Senior Advisor to the President (SATP). This individual is responsible for supporting the enterprises of the Senior Vice Provost for Research, who is responsible for a Carnegie Tier 1 research institution on a rapid growth trajectory. The SPM will also be responsible for monitoring, working on the tracking and execution of the many strategic projects & initiatives relating to the Senior Advisor role.

The successful SPM will thrive in a fast-paced environment, where assignments include interacting with high-level internal and external stakeholders. This position requires a candidate with excellent project management and organizational skills, proactive planning, customer service focus, and the flexibility to respond to a wide variety of multiple and shifting priorities.

The role reports to Senior Director of Administration, Finance, and Planning of the ICBM.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage projects for the SVPR /SATP so that all are planned, executed, and completed within the constraints of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Organize, improve, and monitor project tracking systems for the SVPR/SATP including relevant program files. This includes researching potential initiatives and events, engaging in project proposal creation, vetting individuals, etc.
  • Collaborate with members of the SVPR/SATP divisions to evaluate progress and refine plans, while exercising sound judgment for project progress and project direction on behalf of the SVPR/ SATP. Work with division leadership to provide vision and direction for projects that ensures alignment with institutional goals. Lead process improvement initiatives, evaluating and providing feedback for submissions from the departments in the division. This could involve editing documents, maintaining a current knowledge of division priorities, providing relevant responses, etc.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience in higher education supporting a Dean, Vice Provost, or Vice President level executive; or in business supporting a Director, Vice President, or similar high-level executive
  • Bachelor's degree required; masters preferred
  • Project management (PMP) background beneficial
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed with ability to interact with tact and diplomacy amongst a wide variety of stakeholders both internal and external to the university or firm.
  • Must be a self-motivated worker who can anticipate problems and demonstrate significant independent judgement.
  • Able to take initiative and follow through on tasks independently
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct, a demonstrated record of dependability, and a strong work ethic
  • Experience and comfort handling confidential and/or proprietary information
  • Must be detail-oriented with a high level of attention to accuracy and completeness
  • Must possess superior office/time management capabilities
  • Must have excellent Microsoft Office including word, excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS as well as the ability to learn new software and web-based programs
  • Ability to travel as needed
