Million educational and business department that is a
self-sustaining, self-liquidating agency of the University
(receives no tuition or tax support for its operating
University Housing custodians perform all custodial duties to
maintain clean, safe and sanitary conditions in and around the
residence halls, apartments, and houses of University Housing. They
should exhibit appropriate behavior in the workplace creating a
respectful and inclusive work environment. They will participate in
the augmentation of the division's strategic plan, provide services
that accomplish department core purpose and values and provide
services including direct communications with the customer.
With the guidance of the Facilities Services Coordinator and
Facilities Manager, this position makes decisions to prioritize
work for greater productivity; selects appropriate supplies and
equipment for best results from an assigned set of tools and
chemicals while following established cleaning processes and
procedures; ensures resident concerns are reported/routed to proper
channels; responds to customer questions; provides safety in the
workplace to ensure the protection of self and others.
This position reports to a University Housing Facilities Manager
and is led by a Facilities Services Coordinator. Work is reviewed
regularly by the Facilities Services Coordinator and Facilities
Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position and shifts may
include days, nights, weekend and holidays.
Typical duties may include:
Cleaning, sanitation and light maintenance of assigned building
area; complying with safety procedures; communicating with
residents about custodial and maintenance issues, both orally and
in writing; moving and arranging furniture for special functions;
responding to emergency needs.
Duties may require these physical demands:
Lift 35 pounds routinely and up to 50 pounds occasionally; stair
climbing, overhead work, working on ladders, prolonged periods of
exertion, working in inclement weather, lifting and carrying,
bending, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and stooping; working in
freezers, coolers and basement spaces and occasional clean-up of
This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort
to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during
inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise
notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when
the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide
reliable and current contact information at all times.
Special Requirement: Valid driver's license and ability to obtain
UO Driver's Certification for the purpose of driving University
One full year of work experience providing a service-type function
(example: custodial service, customer service, etc.)
