Description: This is a 9-month tenure-track position with 85% Research and 15% Teaching, available in the Center for Food Animal Health (CFAH) in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and affiliated with the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University.

 

Responsibilities: The Poultry Diseases Specialist will expand and build upon our programmatic strengths, expertise, assets and impact through research on current poultry diseases, including emerging and re-emerging diseases, and impacting poultry production. The successful candidate will be expected to work in areas of interest related to poultry health that include, but are not limited to, microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, pathogen-host interactions, evolution, diagnostics, disease prevention and control including vaccine development, animal models, etc. Successful candidates will join a highly interactive infectious disease research community within The Ohio State University that is an integral part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the University’s Infectious Disease Institute and Center of Microbiome Science.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the poultry industry, poultry veterinarians, stakeholders, and research colleagues within and outside the university. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an extramurally funded research program that is collaborative and nationally recognized. Teaching expectations include developing and/or contributing to courses in the areas of food animal health and poultry diseases or closely related areas, as well as training and mentoring of graduate students. All faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas of the Land Grant Institution (Research, Teaching and Extension). Faculty members have a shared responsibility to support and sustain the CFAES Principles of Community, convey good citizenship, and interact collegially.

 

Location: This position will be located on the CFAES Wooster Campus (https://wooster.osu.edu/home).

 

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

 

Qualifications: Applicants should have a doctoral degree (PhD, DVM, MD or equivalent) in microbiology or related field with advanced training in poultry infectious disease research. Certification or eligibility for certification by one of the AVMA specialties is desirable. Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor should have training, experience, excellent scholarship, and demonstrated evidence of the likelihood of obtaining and maintaining an independently funded and sustainable research program. Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor should have demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently funded and sustainable research program, as well as experience working with interdisciplinary research teams. Candidates should have interest in programmatic synergy with existing members of The Ohio State faculty.
