Job Description

The Five College Center for World Languages , a nationally recognized program of the Five College Consortium , has an opening for a Program Assistant to support its work of teaching less-commonly taught languages to students from Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since 1991, the Center has helped more than 5,000 students study 60 languages from around the world.

Working from its offices in downtown Amherst, the Program Assistant provides educational, logistical, and administrative support for Center courses and assists with trainings, outreach, and publicity.

Duties

As the Program Assistant, you will manage a wide variety of data and relationships related to our course offerings. You will work one-on-one with students, sometimes in person and often over email, to identify and solve logistical and educational challenges and help them meet their learning goals. You will create and maintain detailed records, such as registration reports and gradebooks. You will develop and implement policies to help our courses run smoothly. You will both collaborate with Center staff and undertake independent work using good judgment, research, and creativity to help improve and promote our programs.
