Accounts Receivable and Loan Analyst
The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Assistant Bursar, the Collections and AR Loan Analyst is responsible for ongoing analysis of the University's accounts receivable, collections, and loans to ensure proper collection efforts, balances, and communication to students and other campus constituents. A vital portion of these responsibilities is done through maintaining reconciliations between external systems and the University's ERP system, in both the finance and student modules. This position acts as the University liaison with third party collection agencies and the loan servicer so they are required to possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills. This position will also provide regular support to other positions within the Office of the Bursar.

Responsibilities

Loan Portfolio Management
  • Tracks University-funded loan disbursements and reports them to loan servicer.
  • Completes electronic loan exit paperwork for student borrowers who are graduating or below part-time status.
  • Posts loan payments to the Banner Finance system and reconciles multiple loan funds.
  • Approves uncollectable loans for assignment to third party collection agencies.
  • Works with borrowers on deferment, forbearance and cancellation paperwork in accordance with Department of Education guidelines.
  • Processes defaulted Perkins Loans back to the Department of Education.
Reconciliation and Analysis
  • Completes monthly reconciliations for past due student accounts and loan funds within the Banner Finance system.
  • Completes reconciliation of account balances between the University and collection agencies and between the University and the loan servicer.
  • Completes a strategic analysis of all collection accounts and recommends collection strategies to the Assistant Bursar.
Customer Service
  • Advise students, sponsors, and parents about tuition and fees and other related charges. Responsible for heavy volume of oral and written correspondence with students, collection agencies, and parents.
  • Coordinates with Financial Aid, Admissions, the Registrar's Office, and other departments to resolve student issues related to tuition and fees.
  • Answers email and telephone calls with professionalism and clarity. A general knowledge of campus activities is required to be able to direct questions to the appropriate department/individual
Collection of Delinquent Receivables
  • Proactively initiates outbound calls to contact delinquent debtors to secure payment and/or negotiate repayment arrangements. Arrangements must be documented via electronic agreement/signature and plans are be monitored for compliance.
  • Resolves student complaints by researching accounts and correcting discrepancies. Knowledge of registration, payment deadlines, drop dates, tuition and fees structure, financial aid, College Opportunity Fund (COF), the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement, University policy, etc. is required to effectively resolve issues.
  • Determines when accounts are uncollectible and assigns them to a third party collection agency.
  • Reports collection accounts to the Department of Revenue for tax offsets.
  • At times, position will work with University departments to assign non-student accounts to collections.
  • Posts/reports payments on collection accounts and reconciles balances between systems.
  • Researches bankruptcy filings on the PACER system.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting or related field.
  • A bachelor's degree that includes 27 semester hours in accounting or auditing coursework will substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Experience with Collections with knowledge and understanding of state and federal collection regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Protection Act.
  • Experience in an AR module within Banner or a similar system.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education institution.
  • Aptitude for understanding and applying complex State and Federal Regulations.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and deliver a quality, error free product.
  • Analyzation and problem solving skills including the ability to use independent judgment.

Pay Range

$ 60,500 - $62,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
