Fleming College is actively seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as their Associate Vice President, Student Experience (AVPS). The AVPS will join Fleming College at an exciting time, to help lead the College and student experience division in developing and overseeing the implementation of a leading-edge student success and retention plan, which drives excellence in the entire student experience inside and outside of the classroom from arrival and orientation through to graduation and career services. 

Founded in 1967, Fleming College is located in the heart of the Kawarthas Lake Region in Central Ontario – a beautiful place to live and work, surrounded by natural beauty and a mere 90 minutes north-east of Toronto. The College’s 6,800 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, including hundreds of international students from countries around the world, attend at campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Haliburton and Cobourg. Fleming offers more than 100 full-time programs in Environmental and Natural Resources Sciences, Fine Arts, General Arts and Science, Technology, Skilled Trades, Community Development, Health, Business and Justice as well as other Continuing Education courses. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Academic and Student Experience (EVPASE), the Associate Vice-President, Student Experience (AVPS) provides leading-edge strategic leadership, planning, and administration to a large and complex division of diverse services and supports across multiple campuses for both domestic and international students throughout their academic career from arrival and orientation through to graduation. These services include: orientation; counselling; student advising; health services; career services; library; tutoring and academic skills; accessible education; diversity and inclusion, including specific services and support provided to Indigenous and international students; residence life; housing support; athletics and recreation; and customer service oversight of ancillary services such as food service and the campus stores.     

The AVPS is a community leader who maintains a strong presence in the communities where Fleming College campuses reside. Working closely with the EVPASE, the AVPS develops and implements effective student retention and conversion strategies and the effective administration of the student rights and responsibilities policies and processes. The AVPS will cultivate relationships with the two student governments addressing concerns and issues as they arise and implementing a proactive approach to ensure positive relations and the delivery of exceptional services to the student body.    

As the ideal candidate, you have proven experience as a progressive senior student affairs leader in an academic institution and have an advanced degree in a relevant field (preferred). You bring a deep understanding of the current and emerging issues for students in the post-secondary environment. You are a strategic and visionary leader who can successfully lead new initiatives, collaborate across administrative and academic units, and inspire a team of dedicated student-focused professionals. As a leader you have demonstrated ability to create meaningful relationships with students, staff, and faculty, and have a deep understanding and commitment to diversity and inclusivity. You are able to successfully foster and maintain relationships with diverse communities and external stakeholders on behalf of your institution. You are future-focused and can lead innovation and change initiatives in a multi-stakeholder, multi-campus environment. You have significant experience in the development and introduction of policies and programs that support diverse students’ learning and development. The ideal candidate will also have experience in overseeing complex budgets with multiple funding partners, as well as experience in crisis and issue management.
