Senior Director of Marketing (Communications & Marketing Management 1 - MR 13 )

UTC's Senior Director of Marketing serves the university as its chief marketing officer. This person will be responsible for developing and executing institutional brand and marketing campaigns, plans, and collaborating with other unit-level marketing personnel across campus to ensure the institution has a consistent, comprehensive, and integrated approach to its marketing work. The Senior Director of Marketing will bring knowledge, expertise, and excellent communication and listening skills to the work of coordinating with and providing leadership to other units including divisions, colleges, academic departments, and student support units that may have needs/goals of developing marketing messaging that could include paid components. This position will supervise a team of marketing strategists/specialists serving to develop a spectrum of marketing materials/communications (focused on a variety of informational, recruitment, retention, and engagement goals); serve as a liaison with other teams in the division including, notably, the creative team and the digital team; conducting and providing marketing performance assessment for traditional and digital efforts; and enhancing the university's outreach efforts.

Anticipated salary: $95,000 - $100,000 with extensive benefits package

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing, Planning, and Execution:
  • Develops, manages, and executes strategic marketing campaigns and activities for the university and its partner units (divisions, colleges, and departments) with the goals of enhancing brand awareness, growing enrollment and retention, and encouraging engagement
  • Develops and executes a multi-channel marketing approach for the institution, including traditional and digital paid placement (budget management), manages effectiveness measurement and conducts routine reporting
  • Is involved in the university's targeted and direct marketing efforts through its CRM and performance measurement/reporting of those efforts
Team Supervision, Project Oversight, and Integration/Collaboration:
  • Supervises a team of marketing strategists/specialists in the Communications and Marketing Division who focus on the following, in order to achieve the goals of the university's strategic plan: brand awareness and marketing campaign planning/execution/effectiveness measurement and reporting; marketing and communication strategy development with campus units; creative asset development; digital analytics (Google Analytics) expertise; and campus outreach
  • Ensures collaboration in terms of the development and maintenance of recruitment marketing materials (print, video, email, etc.) that serve to influence prospective students to attend UTC
  • Conducts performance evaluations, manages schedules, and provides supervision duties
  • Focuses on outreach: finding and implementing opportunities for the university to have a greater presence at events throughout the Chattanooga region and beyond
  • Works with partners in Enrollment Management, Advancement, and Athletics to develop an annual calendar of events and appearances that could feature the university, its employees, students, mascot, or other appropriate representatives of the institution
  • Works closely with the Vice Chancellor of Communications and Marketing
  • Partakes in other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Possesses skills and abilities in three primary areas: knowledge of modern best practices in marketing, planning, and execution as well as effectiveness measurement and reporting; has a high level of creativity and expertise with brand and marketing campaign management; and leadership and supervisory skills enabling them to serve as a strong leader within the division and on campus
  • Highly experienced at comprehensive marketing planning and asset development; and possesses strong communications and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of marketing plan development including strategy, messaging creation and coordination, and creative asset development (in partnership with the Creative Team)
  • Expertise in digital marketing and measurement, including experience with Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Adwords, etc.
  • Expertise in optimal traditional marketing placement/coordination
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and ensuring best practices
  • Experience with a CRM and the development/sequencing of e-communications and printed materials
  • Skill in budget management
  • Skill in copywriting and copyediting
  • Creativity, energy, and drive to improve and enhance the university's visibility at community events
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative, collegial, respectful work environment

Minimum Qualifications: R equires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant field and 5-7 years professional marketing experience, including 2-3 years of management experience are preferred.
