- TITLE: Payroll Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Payroll
REPORTS TO: Payroll Manager
EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under general supervision of the Payroll Manager, reviews and processes the payment of wages and other forms of compensation to faculty, staff, and student employees on a bi-weekly/monthly pay cycle university-wide. Processes/assists employees with direct deposit and other general deduction requests as well as supplemental payrolls as needed. Assist employees with manual checks, and general payroll questions. Administers vacation and sick leave balances including calculation of payouts, adjustments, etc. Supports the Director of Payroll in report requests and other items as assigned.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Ensures the accurate bi-weekly/monthly processing of wage and other compensation payments to all Faculty, staff, and student employees
- Reviews approve/disapproves and correct direct deposit or other general deduction forms completed and submitted by employees.
- Researches payroll overpayments or other discrepancies and communicate such items to appropriate staff and ADP.
- Works with ADP to process supplemental payrolls as needed
- Updates pay batches each pay period
- Assists faculty, staff, and students, and non-university individuals and entities, as appropriate, in the procedural understanding and application of payroll and related human resources policies and resolves associated opportunities as required
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES: Back up to monthly pay cycle processing, ADP report writing
QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Associates Degree or three (3) years of payroll experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge in computer applications
- Knowledge of high-volume payroll systems, processes, and procedures
- Knowledge of public institution personnel/payroll practices and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
- Ability to provide accurate and efficient service under the stress of deadlines
- Knowledge and understanding of payroll documentation procedures and requirements
- Knowledge of general mathematics
- Knowledge of general accounting principles
- Knowledge of third-party payroll processing such as ADP, Kronos, etc.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Applications
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
- No or very limited physical effort required
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk
