Campus Minister - LatinX and Neighborhood Ministry

Position Summary:

Cultivate a culture of faith that reflects and engages the rich diversity of LatinX identifying and upper division students while fostering transformative encounters with God through campus ministry.

This campus minister has a particular focus on cultivating a culture of faith reflective of the rich diversity of LatinX identifying students and for accompanying in faith upper division students as part of Neighborhood Ministry in Campus Ministry (NOT a live-in role). Initiates opportunities for spiritual growth; engages in evangelization and outreach; creates opportunities for Catholic catechesis, faith formation, and religious literacy; builds faith communities; and fosters student leadership in ministry in the student neighborhood with particular attention to the experience of Catholic students. Ministry development may include Christ-centered outreach initiatives, faith sharing/scripture study groups, faith-based educational opportunities, prayer/reflection and other creative and celebratory faith/relationship building opportunities.
Includes direct connection to and support of housing staff and residents of the student neighborhood through spiritual accompaniment, pastoral care, crisis response, in-area initiatives, weekly communal prayer.
Pastorally accompanies LatinX students and allies and initiates campus ministry programs and collaborative endeavors to cultivate faith and spiritual growth.
Reaches out to a diverse student body with cultural awareness and responsiveness. Participates as an active member of the campus ministry team and embodies a commitment to Catholic and Marianist ideals while cultivating the faith life of the campus community through transformative encounters with God.
In light of the job duties associated with this position, the University considers the individual holding this position to be acting as a minister of the Catholic faith.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Evidence of theological training/formation suitable for ministry
One-year full-time ministry experience or equivalent
Desire to embody Catholic and Marianist traditions as a practicing Catholic, exhibiting public conduct and ministerial practices reflective of the teachings of the Catholic Church (clarified in hiring process).
Willingness to work late evenings and some weekends
Statement of desire/willingness to work with underrepresented communities

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Master’s Degree (Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, Divinity, or related field)
Two years Campus Ministry/youth/young adult ministry
Direct higher education experience, particularly in ministry
Outreach and Evangelization among students in a college campus ministry setting
Developing and implementing creative faith development programs for youth/young adults
Ability to recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate student leaders
Articulating Catholic theological perspectives with breadth and depth and bring them to life among college students
Pastoral care and crises response, including bereavement
Practicing cultural competency in ministry with attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion and dialogue across difference
Taking initiative with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects
Knowledge of or experience serving the LatinX community

Special Instructions to Applicants:

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.

The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel.
