Job Description:

SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a part-time Success Coach to join their team.                                                 

Reporting to the Student Success Manager, the Success Coach is a 12-month, grant-funded position, responsible for campus-wide proactive outreach to students flagged as at-risk or low performing academically.  The Student Success Coach is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students in an effort to increase student retention, success and completion. Assisting students with goal setting and providing continuous communication and follow-up to maximize goal attainment. This position has supervisory responsibility over students.                               

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist current students who are at-risk or low performing to connect with resources on campus to provide support towards their success.
• Work closely with students on Academic Warning or Readmitted in developing and updating their success plans and meet with them on a regular basis while on Academic Warning and their first semester after readmission.
• Monitors student assessment scores and attendance and maintains advising log or case management files to track contact hours, issues, and outcomes of advising sessions and student portfolios with appropriate documentation.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic affairs staff to provide wrap-around services for students struggling academically.
• Work with the Starfish Early Alert system to identify students who are academically at-risk for early intervention.
• Communicate with all "flag raisers" to ensure productive communication paths related to student success. 
• Provide training on the use of Starfish to students periodically throughout the year.
• Participate in New Student Orientation by offering training and information about Starfish and the role of the success coach.
• Aids students and instructors to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence and attendance.
• Develops and presents lessons, workshops, or courses on college readiness and skills; develops relationships with college and other training providers to stay abreast of community needs and college programs in order to provide students with up-to-date and accurate information; establishes and maintains effective working partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Interprets and applies results of predictive analytics and non-cognitive assessment to assist in determining caseloads.
• Monitor students' progress and adjust pathways as needed.
• Other duties or special projects as assigned by the Student Success Manager or the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree
• Experience working with Starfish or other early alert/retention systems
• Experience working in a community college or higher education setting
• Strong communication and organization skills
• Ability to work autonomously
