Job Description

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for two (2) non-tenure track professional faculty positions in University Seminar at the rank of Assistant Professional Professor to begin fall 2022.

The position is a nine-month appointment and will support University Seminar courses in the fall and spring semesters. Teaching responsibilities for University Seminar faculty include, but are not limited to: developing course activities and assignments that help students successfully transition to the University in alignment with program goals and objectives; collaborating with academic advisors and assisting with class registration; and connecting students to campus resources. Sections of University Seminar may be linked within our First-Year Learning Communities Program; in addition to the above duties, University Seminar faculty teaching in learning communities would also be expected to meet and communicate with learning community colleagues regularly, engage with content from linked lecture courses, and collaborate in the design and implementation of integrated activities and projects. University Seminar professors also perform a moderate amount of service. Successful candidates will be required to attend a training workshop and planning meetings prior to the start of the fall 2022 semester. The department is especially interested in candidates who will actively contribute to, and have a demonstrable commitment, to fulfilling the University's mission, as a Hispanic-serving institution, of educating our students to become engaged global citizens with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is a new academic unit in the College of Liberal Arts. We offer several applied degrees through our Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) program as well as the University Studies (UNVS) degree. As a focal point for exchange and dialogue on historical and contemporary issues of culture, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality, the department offers minor programs in Latin-American Studies, Mexican American Studies, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

The First-Year Learning Communities Program (FYLCP) at TAMU-CC was established in 1994 and enrolls incoming first-year students in learning communities during their first two semesters of college. Over the past two decades, the FYLCP has been nationally recognized for its commitment to student success and integrative work.
