Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The Physician Assistant will practice within the guidelines of the unit department and institution and in accordance with the state of Maryland. The Physician Assistant will be granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board; these privileges list specific tasks and are reviewed annually. Ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members. Analytical abilities are necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action for long and short term management of acute and chronic health issues. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel. The Physician Assistant must be able to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.Clinical
- See patients via telemedicine or in outpatient clinic for follow up or for urgent visits.
- Monitor and follow-up on diagnostic test results, prescriptions, medical equipment, insurance requirements and documentation needs for patients for the 500+ patients in the PACT program.
- Telephone triage for patient problems and response to therapy and communicate to the program physicians.
- Educate patients on the PACT inpatient and outpatient services available to them.
- Round on inpatient service with the Pulmonary consult service when needed.
- Screen medical records and facilitate scheduling of new referrals to the PACT Clinic.
- Facilitate and obtain insurance authorization for medical therapy, diagnostic testing and hospital admission.
- Coordinate and develop relationships with industry representatives.
Research
- Team participant in the research activities for the PACT Program.
- Assist with coordination of industry and internal PACT clinical trials, including identifying subjects, IRB submission, regulatory documentation and protocol required study visits and testing.
- Coordinate and assist with sample and data collection and data entry for databases and clinical trials being done in the PACT Program.
Administrative
- Acts as a liaison between referring physicians and the PACT Program.
- Acts as a liaison between hospital staff, including nurses, physicians and other departments, pulmonary division fellows and the PACT Program.
- Helps supervise Medical Office Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

Bachelor's
Degree.
Certification by the NCCPA
or similar national certifying body.
Completion of a CAAHEP
certified Physician Assistant program.
Must be licensed as PA in
State of Maryland or other state where
practicing.
Experience may be
considered in lieu of bachelor's degree, as permitted by the JHU
equivalency formula.
Current American Heart
Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must
maintain current licensure and certification during duration of
employment. Completion of the JH Bayview Medical Center
credentialing process is required prior to start
date.

information presented one-on-one and during staff
meetings.

- Sitting, standing and walking for extended period.
- Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).
- Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.
