The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics seeks an Employer Outreach Specialist who will work within Inmas (Internship Network in the Mathematical Sciences) which is a new program funded by the NSF. Inmas will aid industry, government and non-profit partners in solving strategic challenges by developing internship projects that transform graduate students’ career readiness and strengthen the nation’s innovation ecosystem.  JHU will serve as the center of the Inmas Mid-Atlantic network comprising of JHU, UMBC, University of Delaware and Drexel University. The Employer Outreach Specialist is responsible for:

    Marketing Inmas opportunities to companies.
    Developing and maintaining relationships with companies, government entities, and nonprofits for the purpose of developing internship projects. Maintaining relationships with students and faculty within the network. Matching internships with students.

The initial appointment is for one year with renewal based on performance and continued availability of NSF funding. The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to engage in research activities on campus and conduct research outside of the scope of the position’s primary focus, as time permits.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Networking/Internship Development (Sept-Apr 75%)

    Sales Marketing
    Developing & Assigning Internships Students (workshops)

Internship Management and Planning (May-Aug 75%)

    Oversight of internships with students and companies
    Program planning including implementing improvements

Project Management (Year round 25%)

    Strategic development Maintain relationship with connected universities
    Recruiting students into the program Documentation and workflow improvement Collaborate with the external assessment consultant Participate in Inmas training events and assist, or conduct them, as needed and when available Contribute to the success of the Inmas project by providing help and support to the PI and colleagues as needed, and as priorities and demands change within the organization

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    Master’s Degree in related STEM field strongly desired. Bachelor’s degree required. Five years of related experience including experience with project management required. Additional education (graduate degree) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications:

    PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics Internship or work experience in industry or a scientific lab Broad basic knowledge in modern science and technology

    Willing to travel by car, train, and plane

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
