The College Writing Program at Fairleigh Dickinson University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition at the FDU Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, New Jersey. FDU is a private, nonprofit Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) of higher education, with two New Jersey campuses, the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck and the Florham Campus in Madison. The Metro Campus is home to a majority-minority student body. A number of the writing classes offered on the Metro campus each semester are offered in specialized learning communities (e.g., Hispanic Center, Honors Program). The Metropolitan Campus also has a strong career focus, as it is home to many of FDU’s business, professional, science, and health care programs.

Required Qualifications:
Required: PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or other field relevant to writing instruction. The ideal candidate will have expertise and a record of excellence in teaching in basic writing. Bilingual Spanish-English a plus and/or TESOL certification a plus, but not required. Expertise in basic writing required. Some administrative experience in Writing Program Administration a plus (e.g., curricula development, faculty observation, placement, scheduling, assessment). Evidence of a promising research agenda, emerging record of scholarship in the field, and a strong commitment to and record of excellence in undergraduate writing instruction. Demonstrated excellence and potential for ongoing productivity in scholarship (publications, conference activity) and service to the profession beyond the university (leadership in scholarly societies or professional organizations, involvement in scholarly journals, etc.). Expertise in linguistic justice and/or antiracist pedagogy preferred. Ability to represent the Writing Program in faculty governance; support diversity and service initiatives on campus; and involve multiple campus constituencies (e.g., library, academic support, advising, student life, faculty in the majors) to support writing students and further the activities of the Writing Program beyond the classroom. Expected teaching load of 9 credits per semester, primarily in basic writing. See FDU’s Faculty Handbook for specifics of scholarship, service, and other expectations for tenure-track faculty.
