Job Description:

DIVISION: Athletics

DEPARTMENT: Athletics

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the usual and customary duties associated with running day-to-day coaching of an athletic program including but not limited to recruiting, day-to-day practice plans, and scheduling. Person hired would be responsible for men or women’s daily practice schedule while also assisting with all administrative and operational aspects of the other team .

UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Non-traditional work hours; possible extensive travel involved; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of collegiate coaching experience which incorporates recruiting and on-court coaching duties, preferably at the Division I level.

Collegiate playing experience

Knowledgeable of NCAA division 1 rules and regulations

Knowledge of Play Sight is preferred

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: Assistant Coaches (if assigned), Student Assistants, Student Workers

REPORTS TO: Head M/W Tennis Coach

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists the Head Coach with the responsibility for a successful program. This involves:
  • overseeing the recruitment of academically qualified student athletes,

  • helping to maintain the academic success and progress of all recruited athletes with assistance from the Student Academic Support Services department,

  • preparing the teams for practice and competitions on a daily basis,

  • overseeing and providing counseling, training and conditioning for the athletes,

  • ensuring the rules compliance of the NCAA, Conference and the University in the athletic program with the assistance of the compliance services on campus,

  • immediate reporting of suspected or confirmed rules violations.

2. Assists in the planning of the program. This involves:
  • developing an attractive annual schedule in cooperation with the Head Coach,

  • meeting regularly with the Head Coach to ensure a clear understanding and dialogue of all aspects of the program,

  • maintaining accurate files and documentation on the athletes including information for the annual report, recruiting and contracts,

  • recommending improvements to maintain the success of the program.

3. Assists in the preparation and expense of a budget. This involves:
  • planning for expensing of the annual university allocation,

  • recommending yearly changes in the budget requests,

  • approving all expenditures of the program throughout the fiscal year.

4. Assists in the coordination of student athlete programs in ensuring the success of the team.

5. Assists in organizing and administering a quality summer camp program as requested.

6. Assists the Head Coach in promoting the University. This includes:
  • being responsible for a great deal of public relations responsibilities to radio, TV, the media and University Alumni and service groups,

  • producing a program that exhibits success and growth each year due to a great amount of spectator, faculty and media interest and the potential for more University revenue,

  • organizing and conducting a quality summer camp to promote the University and generate additional income each year.

7. Receives annual written approval from the Director of Athletics and Recreation and the President prior to receiving any athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution including contractual agreements and letters of appointment.
  • Sources of income shall include but are not limited to: income from annuities; sports camps; housing benefits (including preferential housing arrangements); country club memberships; complimentary ticket sales; television and radio programs; and endorsements or consultations with athletics shoe, apparel or equipment manufacturers.

8. Participates in the professional development of the department. This involves:
  • attending divisional and departmental gatherings and seminars to understand the University and its goals and objectives,

  • attending regular staff meetings,

  • monitoring developments in the NCAA and the Conference through

  • attendance at workshops, seminars and related associations and organizations,

  • promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the community and the campus.

9. Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:
  • promoting proper utilization of equipment, materials, staff and athletes,

  • notifying the supervisor immediately of any unsafe conditions.
