ATTENTION:

Young Auditiorium in the College of Arts and Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Director for Young Auditiorium (Arts Program Director, AR003).

Academic staff positions are provided fixed term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon performance, university funding and external forces. One position is commensurate with continued grant funding.

JOB DETAILS:

The Auditorium Director is charged with upholding the instructional, public services, and cultural mission of the University by making the Young Auditorium a cultural and educational center for the campus and region. The Young Auditorium is a regional destination for performances and young shows of all types including Broadway shows, concerts, musicals, plays etc. The Auditorium Director has overall responsibility for effective and efficient operation, administration, and utilization of the Auditorium. The Auditorium Director will work with administrative, technical, clerical and volunteer staff, a variety of advisory committees, including Cultural Affairs Committee and the Young Auditorium Advisory Committee, and all user groups, to provide for successful utilization of the facility. The budget of the Young Auditorium is program revenue generated; the funding for all staff positions is secured.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years programming and/or auditorium management
Desired Characteristics:
  • Master’s Degree
  • A proven track record in executive leadership, management, operations, budgeting and financial administration
  • Experience in a university setting

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Consult with appropriate staff and committees to create a vision for the Auditorium
  • Carry out the Strategic Plan
  • Work with the appropriate staff and committees to establish and implement operating and utilization policies for Young Auditorium
  • Provide Leadership in the creation and implementation of artistic policy for the programs presented in the Young Auditorium
  • Oversee cultural programming in Young Auditorium including the Cultural Affairs program and the Horizons Program
  • Carry out financial planning for the Auditorium
  • Facilitate general facility scheduling and management
  • Work with all user groups, including but not limited to Academic Departments of the University, Continuing Education, and UW-Whitewater student groups to ensure the effective utilization of the facility for their activities
  • Negotiate all contracts relative to Young Auditorium, including program contracting and facilities usage
  • Create an audience development program which will invite and encourage a diverse representation of student and community members to participate in the activities presented in Young Auditorium
  • Supervise development of marketing plans and marketing materials for both the programs presented in the Auditorium and the facility itself
  • Develop staff plans
  • Diversify the usage of this multipurpose facility
  • Create and develop programs that will expand the usage of the Young Auditorium and that will broaden the bas of people the Auditorium serves
  • Supervise, guide, manage and motivate staff to provide for such leadership
  • Create and encourage professional growth and development opportunities
  • Supervise development of appropriate grant proposals
  • Nurture growth of Auditorium membership and sponsorship
  • Cooperate with UW-Whitewater Foundation in fundraising and development

  • This position supervises the Young Auditorium professional staff, paid students and volunteers

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $70,000-$90,000.
